How to begin the exercises
Each exercise is in an expandable panel. To begin, click on the bar labeled “Exercise 1”. This will expand the first problem. Open other exercises by clicking on their bars.

Solving exercises
A White or Black ball to the right of the diagram indicates whose side it is to move. Try to find the best move and the possible outcomes. For harder problems, it may help to set the position up on a real board. Do not move the pieces – you won’t be able to in a real game before deciding on a move.

To see the solutions
To get the most out of the exercises, try to solve them yourself and only look at the solutions when you’re stuck.

The Solutions are listed in the last panel labeled “Solutions”. The moves can be played through using the arrow buttons below the chessboard or by clicking on the move notation.

The solution moves are listed in algebraic chess notation. Often, moves in the solutions are marked with symbolic notation. Some common symbols and their meaning are listed below. For more information see chess annotation symbols.

Reporting Errors
If you encounter a problem with the display of an exercise or solution, or find a mistake in the answer, please report it to admin @ chessmaven.com.
